Some Lady, wow

As many of you may already know, I work at King Soopers. Like every other job out there, it has it positives and negatives, but for the most part it sucks. Anyways, I was working today and a customer with quite a story came in. To begin the story, I was showing a customer where iced tea was and she approached me. She looked at my name tag and unlike any other customer in the history of the world called me by my name. She said, "Shaun, can you help me get some cigarettes?" I automatically considered her in a elite group of King Soopers customers because she called me by my name and replied, "Yes". I started walking toward the cigarettes to fulfill her request of a certain type of death sticks. As I walked (she following closely behind me) toward the cigarettes, she said, "I don't smoke the cigarettes they are for my friend whom I came to visit". Disregarding this comment, I asked her what type of cigarettes she wanted. She hesitated and pulled out a piece of paper with writing on it, which read the brand of cigarettes she wanted. She said, "I need two packs of Virginia Slims". I went and looked for the rolled up tobacco but we didn't carry that kind. I ended up giving her two packs of the Marlboro 100's. After I gave them to her she said, "I appreciate your help so much, its such a difficult day for me". I didn't really give much thought to her comment and I just replied, "You're welcome". After I said that, she started breaking down and crying in front of me (Shocking, I was like OOOOHHHHH MMMMYYY GGGOOOODDD!) She then started telling me why this day has been so hard for her. She said she lived in Boston with her Mom and she arrived here at 7:00 this morning (keep in mind this took place at about 10:30 a.m.). She said she got word that her best friend, who lived out here was dying and she immediately came out when she found out. She said the cigarettes were for her friend and they were one of her last requests.
By this point, I was affected by this entire thing too (just wait, it gets worse). So I told her I hope her friend gets better. She then said that was the least of her problems, because right when she arrived here in Colorado, she got word of her Mom dying back in Boston the night before (when she was on her way out here to visit her dying best friend). When she said this I didn't even know what to say while she was crying. I just said I'm really sorry and that I hope your friend feels better. She then hugged me and left to go see her dying best friend.
This is a really sad event I experienced today. I learned that I'm lucky to have my friends and my family alive. That lady has it rough and I saw it first-hand. I really hope her friend gets better for her sake. Thanks for your time, especially Sammy who has college homework to do.

Until next time,

Shaun Hicks

Shaun, it's Ti Ti. Sorry that woman had to approach you like that. Totally agree with you, and we shouldn't take things for granted cause other people have it rougher than us. Blogspot rules!
