Life

In my personal opinion, this winter break has been pretty solid so far. I got to finally hang out with Sabatino (The Chancellor) and witness him tie his season-high single game scoring record (4 points) against Florida Atlantic University. It seems like I don't get enough time to hang around that awesome guy, but he is doing his thing, so you can't hate on that. I am absolutely sure that his single-game scoring record will drastically increase in the near future, along with DU finishing with a winning record at the end of the season (a very bold prediction). I have all the faith in the world in Sammy's Basketball skills. This team is showing some promise and improvement, its good to see. I also got a chance to hang with some of the other Denver players and found out that they are some pretty cool guys!
Going to Illinois was pretty cool and I'm really glad that I went. The first night I was there, I got to hang out in Downtown Chicago with my cool older sister and her boyfriend, which turned out to be surprisingly fun. I also got to see my Mommy, which is always good and even got to attend the Monday Night Football game. It was the coldest game ever played at Soldier Field, I wore three winter coats and still froze! It was 7 Degrees at Kickoff with a -12 Degree wind chill! It was an awesome game though and Da Bears even pulled out a W over the Packers (Keeping their playoff hopes alive). There is a slide show of sweet pictures at the bottom of the page of the Monday night Game (For your Info., you can double-click on a pic to get the full size picture) I am pretty sure that my face was frozen solid in that picture on this blog! I hope everybody had a good winter celebration! (I say that to avoid endorsing certain religions over others). It's always good to be around your family during Christmas, you just get that good comfortable feeling, it seems like everything is gonna be all right.
Also, keep an eye out for new guest blogs on the site, they are coming! There is some undiscovered blogging talent out there and I think my site can bring some of those good blogs into the light! I know this is a short blog this time around, but there is gonna be a whole lot of action comin' up soon!
Keep it Real.

Hello World

Hello loyal blog readers and welcome back,

I am fully aware that my last blog update was about a month ago and I sincerely apologize for that. I have been kind of wrapped up in the entire college experience (even though nothing ever happens in Wyoming). I have to say I am glad to be back in action though, it feels good to write again. As most of us (including myself), find ourselves in the college environment, I hope everyone is doing well away from home. I think its somewhat normal to miss your family, which is a good thing because that means you love and appreciate them. While we are in college, lets have a good time, but also make something of ourselves. I really think that its easier to start to discover yourself in college, because you are naturally more independent and find yourself making your own decisions more often. My Dad once told me,"Shaunie, you are becoming the man you will be for the rest of your life". I'm still not 100% sure what that means, but I think he is saying that you will start to find yourself in college (or he could just be rambling on like usual). If that is true, let us become the best people we possibly can (or something like that).
I have also started to realize that having a positive mindset is really a good thing to have. Its like always having the sun shining on your face and warming up your mind. I think it helps you smile and laugh, even in times when things are going south. Thinking good thoughts always makes the situation better, no matter how ugly it gets. I also believe in treating others with respect and the belief that I am no better than anyone else. I enjoy being treated with respect, so I try to return the favor. With all of these thoughts in mind, I hope everyone can become who they want to be, and be satisfied with themselves.
I know I am going to miss the summer days and nights, where I really didnt have a worry in the world. It really seems like the transaction from hanging out with friends during the summer, to being up at school went way too fast. Of course I am going to miss Rockies games and summer golf, but fall is here and different priorities are on the horizon. I know that everyone has different beliefs, but there is a memorable quote that has stuck with me that applies to this. Ghandi once said, "You must be the change you want to see in the world", and I hope that everybody can make those personal changes (whatever it may be) and see greatness in themselves.
Aight, that felt good to just get some of those thoughts off of my chest. That blog may have been beneficial to you, or pointless (but I hope it was acceptable). I was kind of aiming for a deeper, more reflective blog (it was kind of an experimental blogging experience). What a wonderful world.

Much Respect to Everyone

Until Next Time, Shaun Hicks

Takin' a Walk Down Memory Lane

Hello,

I hope everyone is great and is making the most of their summer. That is actually a very interesting concept, making the most of your summer, or making the most of your time for that matter. I'm not going to complain, this summer has been amazing so far and I have been able to spend time with a lot of really great people. It just seems like time keeps going faster and faster lately. The reason I don't put new blogs every few days is because sometimes I have trouble finding inspiration. That is not the case this time, I might even go as far as to say that I have been hit by a bus full of inspiration. I already have so many good thoughts and memories that I will never forget, just from the past few months. Most of those great memories include one of my best friends, Erik. He recently left for school in South Dakota (I know what you're thinking, why so damn far away?). Now that he has left, all I can do is just look back on ALL of the great times we had. It honestly just seems like yesterday we both got jobs at King Soopers and now the summer is almost over, unbelievable. If I have learned anything important from this, it would be to enjoy every single moment you spend, with the people that are important to you. I really wish I could go to a couple more Rockies games with him before he left. It seems like a couple of weeks of summer just skipped by or something. Erik usually doesn't read my blogs, but I hope he reads this one (giant shout out to EY). Don't get me wrong, I am going to miss everyone who is leaving for school. I have so memories of summer Rockies games, and especially the July 3rd game! (easily one of the best Rockies games of my life). I am really going to miss all of it, those are some of the memories I hold dearest to me.
Even thought these memories are in the past, there are still tons of memories in the future for all of us. I consider myself very fortunate to be surrounded by so many great people. It's almost like my circle of friends is a toe-ring, which is unbreakable, because it is metaphorically cemented to a certain toe, which is our friendship. I hope Erik all the best in South Dakota and everyone else moving away for school next year (Lacey, Jessie, Nikki, Joey T., Sabatino, Eren, Megan, My sister Megan in Chi-town, D-Harsh at CU, E-dog, and EVERYONE ELSE moving away for school next year). Wait, I left someone out, Jake Balti (even though I am rooming with him, he would probably be mad I left him out). It has definitely been a summer to remember, but I wouldn't mind a couple more nights to make smores (even though Nikki ate my perfect smore, and Erik makes nasty angel food cake-chocolate experiments (which Lacey actually ate and got chocolate all over her face)). I guess that is better that a bagel to the face though.
I know we are all going to have a tough time leaving our friends, but none tougher than Eren and Megan. I think for them, surviving without each other is the main concern. I'm just kidding, but I am running low on t-shirts, I think I know someone who could help with that!

Respect to everyone who read this one, and keep it positive (Jessie)

Until next time, Shaun Hicks

Blog Influences

Hello Everyone,

I know there has been a slight delay in the new blog release. You may have heard the circulating rumors that I am going to retire from the blogging scene and let someone else have the blogging spotlight. I want you all to know that this rumor is somewhat true, I did consider retirement. I have given this important issue lots of thought and I have come to some conclusions. The first thing I figured out that is that, I am never going to write a blog without putting my heart into it and just try to rush out a half-assed blog for everyone to read. My blogs may take a bit longer to be released, but I will still be releasing them and they will be quality. I realized that the reason I even do these blogs is to share my thoughts and feelings with my loyal fans. I write my best blogs when I am really inspired. I have one loyal fan whom I have never given a shout-out, even though they deserve so much more. I have to get this off my chest because it's way overdue. This person is someone who has always inspired me, even before the blogs. She has been an extremely important figure in my life when other family members haven't been around (but she has always been there). She has always showed me mad love and served me as a perfect role-model. I am just now appreciating how much she means to me and just how much she has taught me. This well deserved shout-out is to my older sister Megan (the beautiful girl in the picture above) who recently moved to Chicago. Its really tough to show how much you mean to me but this quote helps, "There's no way I can pay you back, but my plan is to show you that I understand, you are appreciated" -Tupac

Now I have addressed that, we must move into another topic that is equally (if not more important). The Colorado Rockies are 6 games back of first place in the N.L. West. We are really heating up (our last ten games we are 9-1) and there is a long road trip that awaits us. We have a 3 game series with the god-awful Pirates, and then we travel to Florida to play a 4 game series against the Marlins. We are 17-36 on the road this season, so if we can tear up this road trip and then return home playing well, we are mos. def. in this race for first. I think the Rockies have a real shot at the playoffs (again!!!). I know I cant expect what happened last season, to happen again this year, or ever again in my life time (it was like catching lightning in a bottle). I hope to attend at least 6 or 7 more games this year, while I have the chance (so let's go!!!) There is nothing better than attending Rockies games with your friends!!(Erik, Jake, Joe, Nikki, Lacey, Jessie) and if you're really lucky you may even get the chance to wait in line all day for tickets!!

I really hope everyone has had a really good summer so far and is getting excited for college next year!!! (even Harshman as a sophomore). We still have a couple of weeks left, so lets have some fun!!! I really appreciate all of my fans and I hope all of you keep updated on the blog page!!! Also vote in my new poll if you haven't yet.

Thanks for your time
Shaun Hicks

The Funny Man

Hello everyone and thank you for visiting my blog page. I hope everyone is doing very well and is having a great summer! To start things off, I would first like to take the chance to thank all of my loyal fans for making my blog page the enormous success it has become. The last poll on my blog page has had a very good turnout, and everyone who voted got the chance to show how they feel about Sammy's return. I am surprised that people actually voted against him! I wonder who could have voted for, "Wow, don't ever come home" and "My life is amazing now Sammy is gone". Surprisingly each of those choices both had two votes along with, "I don't care", which also had two votes. I can't possibly imagine who would vote for those (Joe Tusa and Jake Baltierras). Anyways, the most popular choice was, "Skip the rest of this summer school nonsense and spend the rest of the summer with his friends!", which had a dominating 8 votes. If you didn't vote in this poll, I invite you to vote in the upcoming polls because your opinion is important! (even Jake's)

Now lets get started with the real blog, which everyone has been begging for. I know everyone waits in anticipation, and the demand for my blogs are huge, but the wait is worth it, I promise. This blog takes us back to King Soopers (my current place of employment). I have had to work like 20 hours in the last two days and it almost killed me,I'm not exaggerating. I had to work all day on Sunday and the store was disgustingly busy. I was a cashier and it was slowly killing me. I worked from 10a.m.-7p.m. and was just in a terrible mood as the day pressed on. As time passed on, it got closer and closer to 7, the time for me to get off. I was extremely upset with a most crappy day at work. Just as it was time to go and I turned off my light (showing that I just closed) one last customer came into my line. I was not happy at all to see him because it was time to go home, but I decided to help him anyways. He appeared to be a normal customer until I started to check out all of his groceries. While I was working, he started to tell me all of these random jokes, such as,"An invisible man and an invisible woman had a kid, he was nothin to see". He then followed, "The invisible kid was sick, so they took him to the doctor and the doctor said I cant see him". This guy seriously went on for like 15 minutes of just random jokes that actually were pretty funny. It's like he had an entire show to put on with comments like, "Did you hear about the peanut that walked into King Soopers? It was assaulted". By the time I was done checking out all of his groceries, I was in a much better mood. After his comedy skit was done I said, "Thanks for making my job more interesting". He looked at me and said, "No problem kid, sometimes you've gotta laugh and never take anything too seriously".
That one customer changed my negative outlook on the entire day. He provided me with some of the best advice I have heard in my 18 years of existence. I am really glad that I took the extra time to help that guy out. It helped me realize that sometimes you really need to laugh (especially when you're having a bad day). That guy was pretty tight and I would be glad to help him out with his groceries anytime. It's important to enjoy yourself and be happy, or what would be the point?

Thanks for your time,
Shaun Hicks

A good time to be Alive

Welcome back to the blog spot!!

First things first, I would like to invite all of my loyal readers to vote in my brand new poll on the bottom of the page (check it out). Anyways, I hope everybody is having a good summer, even though that is somewhat impossible when you are stranded up at miserable DU. I hope this blog can at least provide Sabatino with some form of entertainment and drag him away from Halo for 10 minutes. So, I just got back from Chicago and I was able to play golf with my brother (Justin) who I haven't talked to in like a year. It was really good to see him and even better to absolutely destroy him at golf! My golf game game is getting scary good!! (Like almost as good as Sammy with a lefty Pitching Wedge!!)
It was a good trip out there because I was able to see everybody that I miss (Shout out to my Mom). It's always good to see family because they will always be there for you, and they always have love for you! It was also good to see all of my cousins who all live out there. But don't get me wrong I'm happy to be home with all of my friends and my Dad. Interesting thing about my Dad, he keeps saying that he tries to read my blog but he cant access it from work. He could be telling the truth, or he straight up doesn't care about me enough to spend a couple of minutes and read what I pour my heart and soul into. At least I am home for the rest of the summer so I can direct my attention to the two most important things in my life; Golf and the Rockies. Rockies games are always fun to go to. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend it. I actually attended the July 3rd game against the Marlins. Wow! What a game, and the fireworks afterward made it unreal!!! It was nice to go with a close group of friends (Shout out to Nikki). Seriously though, this game was almost as good as Opening Day, which remains as the best day of my life (Sammy can relate). The opening day game was the day before prom when we ditched school on a Friday and went to prom on Saturday, which was also fun (Nikki can relate).
I am really happy with how successful this blog is becoming! Please stay updated because the best is yet to come!

Thanks for Your time
-Shaun Hicks

P.S.- If you take my advice and go to a Rockies game, don't ever, ever under ANY CIRCUMSTANCE enter the whitehouse bar and lounge.

Where I have been

Hey Everybody!!!!

I sincerely apologize for the layoff, I know you've checked the blog spot and have disappointed lately when there wasn't a new posting. Anyways, its been a pretty interesting, but good week. I got to play golf with my Dad, which definitely doesn't happen as much as it should. I also was forced to go to orientation at the University of Wyoming from June 30th-July 1st. That was most def. a new experience for me. Here is where it all started...........................................The first day I arrived there (the 30th), we had to check in, get in groups, the basics. So for the first day we were broken into small groups and we did activities to get to know each other (extremely horrible). We then got tours and ate dinner to complete the first day. This is where the real story begins, so read closely (Sammy). After dinner the first day, we had time to be on our own and experience the freedom and Independence of a real college student. Each person at the orientation was assigned a room, where you were paired with another random student for the night. We had the option to go check out our room anytime after 7 p.m. and drop our stuff off in the room. Well, I was busy exploring the campus and hanging out with all of my new Wyoming friends that I didn't go into my room until around 9:30 p.m. When I went in, I saw my roommates bag on one of the two beds in the dorm. I knew he had been to the room first and claimed his bed. He wasn't in the room when I was there, so I just went back out with my backpack on. I had everything in my backpack so he wouldn't be able to tell I had been in the room yet because I didn't drop anything off. I figured I would come back later and meet him in the room later in the night. I went and hung out around campus for about an hour and a half and thought I should probably return to my room soon to meet him. I was back at my room at 10:30 p.m. to finally meet this punk. This time there was a duffle bag on each of the beds, which was shocking because someone else claimed my bed, that I was assigned to. I then threw one of the duffle bags on the floor and replaced it with my backpack. I then left my room, (with my backpack on the bed containing all my stuff) and went to another kid's room who was pretty chill and who was in my group all day. So I went back to his room because we were hanging out before I went to my room and dropped off my backpack. So I hung out for a while and told my buddy what happened. We plotted how I would go about this situation. So I returned to my room for a third time hoping for confrontation with these cowards. It was 11:15 p.m. by this time and I was standing at my door, room key in hand..........I looked in the eyehole from the outside and saw the light on and instantly knew they were in the room. I slid my card and opened the door (expecting to see two guys). I opened the door and there were 2 redneck-cowboy bastards and 3 ugly girls in my room! The door opened and it was dead silent and they were staring at me. I looked and my backpack was on the floor, and the retard who stole my bed was now sitting down with his duffle bag on my bed. I kindly said, "Why are you in my room you stupid cowboy redneck??" Anyways, I realized that these guys had thier heart on staying in my room and wouldn't settle for anything less. I was like whatever, so I grabbed my backpack and peaced out. I went back to my friend's room and we hung out there with his roommate (who was kind of a nerd) for a while. I eventually ended up staying the night on their floor which wasn't bad because we just chilled and played cards. The moral of this story is that if two flamers ever steal your room kill, dont let them get you down. A night that could have easily been bad, ended up being pretty good. You just have to make the best of what you've got to work with.
Thanks for your time,
-Shaun Hicks
P.S.- I now realize how boring college life can be during the summer (Sammy).

Some Lady, wow

As many of you may already know, I work at King Soopers. Like every other job out there, it has it positives and negatives, but for the most part it sucks. Anyways, I was working today and a customer with quite a story came in. To begin the story, I was showing a customer where iced tea was and she approached me. She looked at my name tag and unlike any other customer in the history of the world called me by my name. She said, "Shaun, can you help me get some cigarettes?" I automatically considered her in a elite group of King Soopers customers because she called me by my name and replied, "Yes". I started walking toward the cigarettes to fulfill her request of a certain type of death sticks. As I walked (she following closely behind me) toward the cigarettes, she said, "I don't smoke the cigarettes they are for my friend whom I came to visit". Disregarding this comment, I asked her what type of cigarettes she wanted. She hesitated and pulled out a piece of paper with writing on it, which read the brand of cigarettes she wanted. She said, "I need two packs of Virginia Slims". I went and looked for the rolled up tobacco but we didn't carry that kind. I ended up giving her two packs of the Marlboro 100's. After I gave them to her she said, "I appreciate your help so much, its such a difficult day for me". I didn't really give much thought to her comment and I just replied, "You're welcome". After I said that, she started breaking down and crying in front of me (Shocking, I was like OOOOHHHHH MMMMYYY GGGOOOODDD!) She then started telling me why this day has been so hard for her. She said she lived in Boston with her Mom and she arrived here at 7:00 this morning (keep in mind this took place at about 10:30 a.m.). She said she got word that her best friend, who lived out here was dying and she immediately came out when she found out. She said the cigarettes were for her friend and they were one of her last requests.
By this point, I was affected by this entire thing too (just wait, it gets worse). So I told her I hope her friend gets better. She then said that was the least of her problems, because right when she arrived here in Colorado, she got word of her Mom dying back in Boston the night before (when she was on her way out here to visit her dying best friend). When she said this I didn't even know what to say while she was crying. I just said I'm really sorry and that I hope your friend feels better. She then hugged me and left to go see her dying best friend.
This is a really sad event I experienced today. I learned that I'm lucky to have my friends and my family alive. That lady has it rough and I saw it first-hand. I really hope her friend gets better for her sake. Thanks for your time, especially Sammy who has college homework to do.

Until next time,

Shaun Hicks

Expierences and Lessons

These first couple blogs are my beginning strides and I will not disappoint later in the race (unlike Big Brown). So I went to the Rockies game tonight, (even though Joey T. still thinks I didn't go, so don't tell him!) and I met a very good man. It was the third inning and I was enjoying the game and all of a sudden my stomach growled extremely loud, to the extent where most of the stadium looked to the sky for thunder! Anyways, I wanted some seeds too and for some retarded reason they aren't sold anywhere in Coors Field. I got up from my seat and remembered a very solid hot dog stand outside of left field which also had seeds! I thought I would swing by there and kill two birds with one stone (hot dogs and seeds in one place!) I walked to the hot dog stand and saw the man with the plan, the best vendor in LoDo named Joel. I ordered two hot dogs, a drink and a bag of seeds for an unprecedented price of $5!!! He fulfilled my order and gave it to me and I get ready to pay the man until...................I reach into my pocket and only have a credit card. I told him I didn't have cash and we nervously exchanged stares for a few seconds. Then he said, "Do you come to many games?" I replied, "Yes!!!".
So then he said, " just pay me later". I was really in luck, Wow what a relief! So I told him I would pay him back this week fo' sho'. He smiled and said, "My name is Joel, whats yours?" I replied, "Shaun!!" We then shook hands and a friendship was born. I plan to pay him back with interest for his extended courtesy.
You may be thinking why Is Shaun blogging about this? Well, This incident taught me a very important life lesson; If you are ever in LoDo around the time of a Rockies game, get a good hot dog from Joel the vendor, and doing that little extra thing goes a long way. He could have just rejected my order and told me to get lost. But no, he openly accepted me and gave me the best deal in Denver. He gave that little something extra that made all the difference. Joel is a very good man and I plan to become a regular around his street corner. He didn't have to do this, but he did, and that's what needs to happen more often in the world. People doing good things for others expecting nothing in return, just like Joel did for me. Thanks for your time.

Until Next time,

-Shaun Hicks

The Ultimate Challenge

Consider this an invitation to my bloggin' nation. First and foremost big ups to the Celtics, even though the big three put the finals on thier back and went all the way. This would have never been possible with just Paul Pierce (as proven last year). After the game last night KG announced, "AAAAAnything IIIIIIIsss PPPPPossible". If this saying is true, and KG is an honest man, then I will eventually reach my ultimate goal for which I even started this bloggin' stuff in the first place. All iv'e got to say is that if I am going to accomplish this, I have to beat out a current blogging expert. He has proven himself through like a hundred blogs, and has established himself on the blogging scene like the great wall is established in China. Anyways, I definitely have my work cut out for me. Right now, I am not even considered a bug on the bottom of his blogging shoe, but I am going to jack him of his bloggin' title (G-UNIT!). Just wait, Im still underground and he went mainstream, that means my lyrics are still from the heart. This is like a rap battle between Nas when he made illmatic versus the current T-Pain, me being Nas. I'm just still metaphorically livin in the Queens bridge projects, and havn't released my best stuff yet. My bloggin' rival has no idea that I have officially dedicated myself to his ultimate destruction. This quote perfectly depicts my feelings toward this mission, "ALL I NEED IS ONE LIFE, ONE TRY, ONE BREATH I'M ONE MAN WHAT I STAND FOR SPEAKS FOR ITSELF, THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND Or wanna see me on top, too egotistical Talkin all that slick shit, the same way these bitches do".

Until next time,

-Shaun

Where it all started

This is the beginning of my blogging career, and hopefully it turns out to be more illustrious than Ryan Leaf's professional football career or Lenny Bias's pro basketball career. Anyways, this blog can serve me as a useful spot to pour out some feelings and thoughts, and hopefully it will serve you as a resource to better understand the inner-workings of Shaun Hicks. I hope to someday become half the blogger that my #1 influence Joe Tusa is! It's like that kid pours his soul onto the keyboard and the result is an incredible blog, that is a definite bundle of joy to read! (shout-out to Sammy Chen). I have no major complaints about my life right now, I'm just soakin' it all in right now. It's been a pretty solid run for me thus far and hopefully I have several good times to come! As a matter of fact, my life is really pretty good. I am extremely fortunate to have everything I've got. I think sometimes people overlook things they have, or take things for granted. You have to appreciate your family and show everybody love and respect cuz they deserve it. I have a ton of thoughts and ideas I can run with so stay tuned! Thanks for your time.
